FIGURE DRAWING: A workshop with the Troy Public Library at 2pm. Improve your ability to draw people from observation in one session! Learn drawing techniques that help you capture the figure in motion and expressive poses. We will begin with a slide show exploring how artists such as Matisse capture the essence of the pose to emphasize feeling. Working alongside Joyce Raimondo on Zoom, we will then learn various techniques for drawing the figure. Session run by the Pollock/Krasner House & Study Center. DIY LIZARD KEYCHAINS: A virtual program with the Troy Public Library. Calling all ’90s kids! Do you remember when everyone was making these lizards and other beaded animals during the ’90s and ’00s? Did you ever learn to make one or have you since forgotten? Never fear, we are bringing back the nostalgia with a fun evening craft you can do at home. Team up with a friend or family member (or come solo). Kits with supplies will be available for pickup at the library the week before the program. Then hop on Zoom on August 24th and we will make them together! Afterward, we will give a quick tutorial on other animals you can make using the same techniques. SENIOR LUNCH AND LEARN: Presented by Cornell Cooperative Extension Albany County. Noon at Westerlo Town Hall, 933 County Route 401, Westerlo. A program featuring ways to combine the goodness of fresh vegetables with protein-packed, high fiber, low-fat beans. Recipes and handouts on the benefits of adding more fiber to your diet will be provided alongwith a food demonstration and tastings. Lunch will be provided by the Town of Westerlo with theassistance of the Resource Center. RSVP appreciated for the meal count, but nor required. SIDEWALK WARRIORS: Each Thursday evening in the parking lot at 35 State St. in Troy, dozens of volunteers set up a large number of tables for Sidewalk Warriors’ weekly distribution. At these tables, visitors can find hot foods, sandwiches, produce, pantry items and essentials. The group often provides special distributions such as towels, linens, pillows, winter boots, underwear, socks or laundry detergent. The folks who attend the distribution may be experiencing homelessness or food insecurity, or they may simply be running short on resources at the end of the month. Set up for the weekly Sidewalk Warriors distribution events begins at 5 p.m. each Thursday, and volunteers begin serving at 6 p.m., no matter what the weather. BINGO: Rensselaer Elks Lodge #2073, located at 683 Columbia Turnpike, hosts Bingo every Thursday evening and the general public is welcome to attend. Doors open at 5 PM for players age 18+. Play starts at 7 PM. $1,300 in prizes. Food and refreshments sold.

TROY NIGHT OUT: Last Friday of every month, 5 to 9 p.m. in downtown Troy. Troy Night Out is an extended evening highlighting shops, restaurants, arts and culture that takes place on the last Friday of every month in downtown Troy. LEARN TO MAKE HULA HOOPS: At the Troy Public Library. Join us for a Saturday morning outdoor workshop where participants will learn to make hula hoops! Experienced hula-hoop maker and all-around crafter Allison will help participants figure out the perfect size hula hoop for them and will weld the unfinished hoops together. Participants can then decorate their hoops however they’d like and in a rainbow of colors. MOVIE SCREENING: The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department relies solely on volunteers to respond to emergencies in our community. Learn more about why SVFD members answered the call to volunteer. Join members of the SVFD for a free community screening of the family- friendly movie “Odd Hours, No Pay, Cool Hat” on August 27, 7 PM at the Stephentown Fire Hall. This newly released documentary highlights the critical role volunteer fire departments play across the country.

COMMUNITY MEAL: YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc., located at 21 First St. in Troy, serves a weekly community meal from 5 to 6 p.m. each Tuesday. It is a free-of-charge, to-go dinner provided for YWCA residents as well as anyone in the community. All are welcome to join us each week for a free, nutritious cooked meal. Meals are prepared by a variety of volunteers including but not limited to YWCA-GCR staff, residents, community members and students. Residents are encouraged to participate in preparation of the meals and will be assisted by staff in menu planning, shopping and time management. We serve an average of 75 people per week. The YWCA-GCR also partners with community organizations to set up booths at weekly Community Meal to advertise, promote and engage guests in services. LEARN TO PAINT WITH WATERCOLOR: Join the library for a series of watercolor workshops where participants will work on seasonal landscapes under the direction of local artist Emma Rinaldi. We will be starting with a flower field, moving on to a sunny mountainscape, and finishing with an ocean view. Whether you are familiar with watercolor or have never used the medium before, all are welcome to attend. Materials will be provided. Participants can come to as many or few workshops as they choose (registration for each class is separate). The first workshop will be held on June 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Main Library, the second workshop will be held on July 26 at 3:00 p.m. at the Lansingburgh Branch, and the third workshop will be held on August 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the Main Library. FOOD HUB WEBINAR: Saratoga Cornell Cooperative Extension USDA Food Hub Feasibility Study Webinar Series. Noon-1pm Sept. 6, 13, 20, and 27. Links will be emailed to registered participants. The Food Hub Feasibility Study.webinar series explores the findings of a study conducted by Saratoga CCE, which was funded by the USDA’s 2021 Local Food Promotion Program grant. Through research, analysis, and on-the-ground work, this study details available and potential markets for local foods. We offer recommendations to best service the local food system that considers distribution, infrastructure, farm-to-institution, food access, the emergency food system, and climate change.

LEARN MICROSOFT WORD: At the Troy Public Library. Join the library for two hands-on computer classes as we master the dreaded Microsoft Word application. In part 1 on September 7, 2-3:30 p.m., we will cover document basics, how to format documents, how to insert special characters, use footnotes, and page numbers, and check spelling and grammar. In part 2 on September 14, 2-3:30 p.m., we will learn how to create columns and tables, insert and format pictures, create and use text boxes, how to manage watermarks, and how to use (and delete) page and line breaks. HISTORIC TOUR: 10 am – Historic Jonesville. Join Clifton Park Historian John Scherer for a walk through the historic hamlet of Jonesville and a tour of the Jonesville Rural Cemetery. SNEAKER FUNDRAISER: Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 510 Albany Shaker Road Loudonville, will be having an Athletic Sneaker Fundraiser on Saturday September 16th and 23rd from 9 am to 1 pm. We will be collecting sneakers in all conditions – excellent, slightly used, old and worn or new ones that just don’t fit. Donate these sneakers to a fundraiser that has a Global Impact! The sneakers that are in good condition are refurbished and provided to people worldwide who don’t own shoes, those in poor condition are recycled into products such as playground cushion material. HISTORIC TOUR: 1pm – Waterford from 1810-1880. Russ Vandervoort, Waterford Town Historian will lead a walking tour of downtown Waterford, describing local landmarks and influential residents who lived there in the mid-19th century. Sponsored by the History Center at Brookside Museum. Registration must be made in advance at the History Center website https://brooksidemuseum.org/events/. A suggested donation of $10 per registration (individuals, couples or families) will support the programs of the History Center and a not-for-profit organization chosen by the tour leaders. Specific directions and parking locations will be provided to registrants in advance of the tour dates.

LIBRARY BUDGET VOTE: For the Troy Public Library. Noon to 8pm at both the Main and Lansingburgh branches.

ICC BINGO: The Italian Community Center Charitable Foundation hosts Bingo night on Tuesdays. Doors open at 5 p.m. at 1450 Fifth Avenue, Troy. Food and beverages will be sold.
